Rock Hound Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Rock Hound app ("Rock Hound," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our iOS application. We built Rock Hound to be privacy-respecting by design — your collection stays on your device, and we don't store personal data on our servers.

Summary

Rock Hound stores your rock collection locally on your device. Camera images used for rock identification are sent to an AI analysis service for identification only and are not retained. We do not create user accounts, collect personal information, or include advertising or third-party tracking.

Camera Usage

Rock Hound requests access to your camera to capture photos of rocks for AI identification. When you take a scan, the image is sent to our analysis service (powered by OpenAI's Vision API) solely to identify the rock species. The image is used only to generate a response and is not stored by us beyond the duration of the API call. You can review OpenAI's data usage policies at openai.com.

Photo Library

Rock Hound may request access to your photo library to allow you to scan photos you've already taken. Photos are used only for in-app identification and are not uploaded or retained beyond the analysis request.

Motion & Fitness Data

Rock Hound requests access to your iPhone's step count via CoreMotion to power the step-training feature. Step data is read locally from your device and used only to calculate training XP for your rock pets. This data is processed on-device and is never sent to our servers or any third party.

Data Stored on Your Device

Your rock collection — including pet names, species, levels, XP, step totals, and scan history — is saved locally on your iPhone. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data permanently.

No User Accounts

Rock Hound does not require or collect account credentials. There is no sign-in and no server-side profile associated with you.

No Analytics or Advertising

Rock Hound does not include third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or behavioral tracking libraries.

Children's Privacy

Rock Hound does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no personal data is collected or stored by us, the app is suitable for all ages.
